Doctor Strange: blog tasks

1) List the companies involved in the creation of Doctor Strange.  The companies involved in the creation of Doctor Strange are Disney and Marvel. 

2) What is conglomerate ownership and how does it link to Doctor Strange? Conglomerate ownership is small companies owned by bigger companies and this links to Doctor Strange because it is marvel film and marvel is owned by Disney.

3) Who regulates the film industry in the UK? BBFC (British Board of film classification) owns the film industry in the UK.

4) What age rating was Doctor Strange given? Why? The age rating giving to Doctor Strange is 12A because Disney/Marvel want low age rating to maximise audience.

5) How was Doctor Strange promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign. Doctor Strange was promoted to an audience by:
  • Merchandising opportunities.
  • Better potential box office.
  • 47% of cinema audiences were aged 7-24 in the UK in 2014.  Word of mouth and peer influence is important in generating interest
 

6) Analyse the film trailer for Doctor Strange. What aspects of the trailer tell you this is a big-budget blockbuster movie? 
One aspect of the trailer that tells us this is a big-budget blockbuster movie is the IMAX and it uses amazing effects throughout the movie.  Plus its budget was very high $165 million which is shown by the locations it i set in: Nepal, London, New York and Hong Kong. It is also shown in the trailer when the main star Doctor Strange who is a British actor Benedict Cumberbatch  (from Sherlock) who is very well known and has established fans. Lastly product placement is used (e.g. the lambourgini).

7) What was the production budget for Doctor Strange and how much did it make at the box office? The production budget for Doctor Strange $165 million dollars and in box office it made $700 million.

8) Would you consider Doctor Strange a successful Hollywood blockbuster? Why?
I would consider Doctor Strange to be a successful Hollywood Blockbuster because it made $700 million in Box office but it was not as successful compared to other Marvel Movies.
